Property Description
The Soul of Casa Koya Welcome to Casa Koya, a tranquil retreat nestled in the Portuguese countryside near Lisbon—a space that has grown from dreams, hard work, and a healthy mix of laughter and lessons (because when you renovate an old house, humor is your survival kit). The journey began in Abu Dhabi, where I was living the expat nurse life—saving lives by day and soaking in the glittering skyline by night. But something was missing. I felt disconnected like I was living someone else’s dream. Then, on a yoga and surf retreat in Sri Lanka, inspiration struck. Staying in a house surrounded by nature, I thought: What if I had a space like this? A place to reconnect with what truly matters. Back in Abu Dhabi, between emergency room chaos and moments of quiet reflection, I started searching. It wasn’t easy, but after a mix of conscious meditation, manifestation, and late-night real estate scrolling, I found it: a charming but creaky old house in Portugal. In early 2020, just before the world changed forever, I took the leap and bought Casa Koya. What followed was nothing short of an adventure. Casa Koya started out like a lovely but needy old soul—with a leaky water pump, a stubborn roof, and an electrical system that could rival a maze. Suddenly, I was learning about septic tanks, roof tiles, and the art of staying calm when the plumbing gives up. But as I worked on the house, it started working on me. The name Koya comes from the Hindi word for nest or cocoon—a safe, nurturing space to rest, grow, and transform. That’s exactly what I wanted to create here. Casa Koya stands on three pillars: Energy, Creativity, and Flourish. It’s a place to recharge your energy, spark your creativity, and grow into your best self. Today, Casa Koya is more than just a house. It’s a sanctuary where the mornings greet you with sunlight streaming over the hills, the evenings hum with stillness, and every corner is filled with care and intention. It’s a space for people seeking solitude, inspiration, or simply a break from the noise of life. Since opening its doors, Casa Koya has welcomed guests from all over the world—whether they’re here for a silent retreat, a plant-based culinary workshop, or just to sit under the stars with a good cup of tea. So, here’s your invitation: Come as you are, step into this cocoon of calm, and let Casa Koya help you rediscover yourself. It’s more than a house—it’s a home for your soul.
